A WoW Commercial

This was brought to my attention the other day and I thought it was fairly cool, so I figured I would pass it on.

Just the fact that they're fighting in a supermarket and none of the other shoppers appears to notice amuses me to no end. Remember when you were a kid and your mother told you not to stare at some weirdo at the store?

"Mommy? Why is the purple lady fighting the green man?"

"Don't stare! They might notice!"

Cheers,
-Jason

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Anyway, it's not the noticing so much as the disembowling that my mother was worried about. You need to be polite even if someone is gutting you with a long sword.

What bugs me is that one of the two hot females turns into a male Orc. I don't like the commercial, because it's blatant HOLY CRAP HOT CHICKS FOR NO REASON.

To me, what would make more sense, is to have a guy and a girl in the same checkout line. They're being flirty, checking each other out, whatever. Then they each pull out the different mountain dews, freeze, get angry, and THEN the all out battle rages.

Same basic concept with a more sensible execution.

Well, I'm going to have to disagree. I didn't notice it at first, but the second time I played the video I noticed only three shoppers, and they all seemed to throw a glance at the action, and the lady with the cart even seemed quite alarmed as she speedily pushed the cart away.

And of course they're both hot chicks! Everyone knows that only girls play WoW, while Real Men (TM) play some other MMORPG that isn't such a n00bfarm. (Don't ask me which MMORPGs that would be, because I don't play any. Perhaps Darkfall?) True story: A friend said that when his girlfriend played Dark Age of Camelot, she played as a big and ugly troll in order to avoid the kind of attention that women tend to get in those games. So I'm believing that one of the hot chicks would play as a male orc.

Also, grrrlgamers roxxors! So showing two hot chicks accomplishes two things: It pleases the male gamers and it shows non-gaming females that you can be a hot chick and still play games. Very successful commercial. I'm sure they'll sell plenty of beverages and get more hot chicks to play WoW.

The problem is not that "hot chicks don't play games" or that "hot chicks don't play ugly orcs", it's the "girl turning into a dude" that gets to me. It doesn't make much sense.

Actually, if the commercial were closer to real life, it would be two unkempt guys with pot bellies and neckbeards who morph into a hot Night Elf and Blood Elf respectively.

"Cleanup in aisle 3" :)

Well the only Sense I can make of it for Raef is that it would show you can play anything, no matter who you are. That's the draw to online games. Guys play girl chars, and some women do play guy characters.
I've known guys that play girl char's and let people think they're girls, because they get more help or free stuff from other guys.
I've known girls that play male chars because they can hide the fact they're a woman and not have guys hitting on them all the time, while they're trying to enjoy a game.

While it did strike me odd that they didn't make it a female orc, it wasn't that big of a deal.

I do Like Raef's idea, with the 2 people flirting better though. :)

What freaks me out, is that the blonde turns into a GUY....

Yeah, I've had a few female characters. I tell people I'm a guy if they ask, but it's not a big deal. I also know women who play males exclusively, just to avoid getting hit on.

Just goes to show, you never know what's looking at the other screen :)

Well watching the video again, I realized something strange. The girl that turns into the guy, she pulls a sword out of her shopping cart, and when she attacks, it morphs into a different sword, as she morphs.

So, was she carry'in the first sword around with her normally? I know, just being an ass, but it's something to think about.

I never was much for playing chicks in a game, unless it gave some kind of special bonus. I did have a friend that would play chicks sometimes, but he would do silly things with the names to warn you. In SWG he played "Imma Mann" and laughed at people that were shocked when they found out he was a guy.

They probably didn't have a match for the CGI sword so they just used something close. They probably didn't want to make a custom piece for just one commercial.
