Doom!

I'm going to play D&D this weekend. My very good buddy Sean is running a campaign and I'm playing an Illusionist for the first time.

NOTE: This is AD&D with lots of home brewed rules. Yeah. We're old.

You see, the thing is, I just got to 3rd level and will now be wreaking illusory DOOM on everyone and everything. I've got 10 hit points, 6 useable spells, and some major havoc on my mind.

This is, of course, a joke. I'm going to hide in the back and maybe cast a spell if I think it's safe. With 10 hit points, I roll a critical on a sneeze and I can literally kill myself. A plant hit me last adventure. Once. And I was at half health.

NOTE: it was a rather vicious plant, but still. Getting your ass kicked by a vegetable is kind of embarrassing.

I did pet a rust monster, so that was cool. I wanted to keep one and train it as a pet, but Sean wouldn’t let me.

Anyway, have a safe and fun weekend. I’m going to try really hard not to die in game.

Cheers,
-Jason

Hah, plant pain is nothing compared to the death suffered by an old D&D friend of mine. He'd taken a Lvl 1 Fighter with a typical Fighter stat block. During the journey to the quest location, he encountered a badger. With a laugh, his player declared, "I'm gonna get me a badger fur hat!". He then proceeded to attack the badger. He hit it, but failed to kill it. It responded by going into a frenzy of black and white stripes and proceeded to kill him outright. Straight beyond the point of resurrection. The other players (after they climbed down out of the trees they'd fled to when their Fighter went down) said, "That badger's got himself a Fighter skin hat...."

I got one also, I was playing a necromancer in AD&D and our dwarf fighter and I were climbing down a hole into a dungeon. He slipped and fell, broke his neck and died, I was "forced" to animate him to get him back to town to get resurrected because I could not carry the big brute. So sad really...

Ah, old D&D stories are the best ones.

In one game many years ago, we were in the middle of this huge battle and we realized the ranger was just kinda hanging out and not doing anything. We asked him why he wasn't fighting and he replied 'I forgot to buy arrows.'

Massive group face-palm.

You know Jason, that last adventure reminds me of when my Mage tried to attack someone with a dagger from horseback. You get an idea, you hope it works out, then you spend a good portion of the game waiting for the healer to bring you back.
